Open the free trial page
Go to the Google Cloud free page and click "Get started for free".
Sign in with a Google account
Use a Google account that has never been a paying Google Cloud, Maps Platform or Firebase customer.
Verify identity and payment
Enter your country, account type and a card or other payment method. Google places a temporary authorization hold that is not charged.
Start using the credit
Once verified, the Free Trial billing account is created with $300 in credit. Track the remaining balance and days under Billing in the console.

Will I be charged when the trial ends?
Google says you are not billed during the Free Trial. To keep using paid services afterwards you have to upgrade to a paid billing account.
